North East Support Meeting public meeting held at Manipur

Guardians’ Meeting Held in Manipur to Address Racial Discrimination Faced by People of North East India in Delhi and NCR. Resolved to Appeal Political Representatives of the Region. North East Support Centre & Helpline with the help of Manipur state branch of All India Confederation of SC/ST and OBC Organisations, had a public meeting at Kakching of Thoubal District, Manipur yesterday to address the role of guardians in tackling the racial discrimination meted out to North East India communities living, studying and working in Delhi and National Capital Regions.

In the public gather, there were nearly 100 parents and guardians of the students studying in Delhi and surrounding sub-cities. The key figures of the town addressed the issues of racial discriminated faced by the communities in the national capital and NCR.

North East Support Centre & Helpline’s spokes person Mr. Madhu Chandra addressed in the meeting. He said, “The mindset of the people in Delhi is the root cause of the racial discrimination to North East people living in the capital and region.” He further said, “The North East communities faced double discrimination when the law keepers Police of Delhi and NCR fails to register the complaints filed by the victims.”

Mr. Chandra also said, "2008 begun with sad news of molestation two sisters at North Delhi by 25 local guys and ended the years with a tribal girl from Assam raped in Gurgaon on last day of the year.

The public meeting was presided over by Shree P. Nimail, retired teacher and public leader of the town. Under his leadership, resolutions were made to form a Guardian body of the Kakching Municipality to look into the welfare of their children studying in Delhi and NCR. Public resolved to appeal to political representatives of the state to bring the racial discrimination to North East communities to the knowledge of the concern authorities of Delhi and NCR.
