Singngat MLA wants political leaders to be proper role models

Lamka, Jan 17: The Chikim communities are one and the same ethnic group and political leaders have to play their role properly by treating these people equally so that nobody feels sidelined and the bonds of unity are strengthened. T Hangkhanpau, MLA 60 Singngat A/C said this today while speaking as chief guest on the occasion of the 15th youth club foundation day celebration at S Mongkot village. The programme began at about 11.30 am this morning at the village.

T Hangkhanpau who is the only MLA in Singngat constituency visiting the village during the last 30 years was given a rousing welcome by the villagers. Around seven chiefs from the nearby village also joined the programme to tender their grievances on the lack of development in their areas.

The areas have been largely by-passed by development of the modern day and we are excited to even see MLAs with their guards, said an aged villager of Mongkot to IFP.

Through the enthusiastic MLA at the helm of affairs for Singngat now certain reas are set on the path to seeing the light of development.

During his speech the MLA assured that old age pension will be given to all eligible people from the village which is 80 households by setting aside Rs. 2 to 3 lakhs from his local area development funds.

He said that as he is not in the ruling party it is as yet difficult to provide IAY schemes to all but he would try his best to extend the facilities.

Assuring that the village waiting shed would be constructed through funds from the BRGF funds, he said the playground would be improved by any available funds and even his own JCB would be used for the purpose of levelling.

He asserted that proper water supply would be provided by getting some shares of funds meant for the purpose from the department with the help of the minister.

The occasion was also attended by L Pumlianpau, special contractor as functional president and Jamlet Haokip as guest of honour.

The chief guest donated Rs. 5000, the president Rs. 5000 and the functional president Rs. 3000/ to the organisers of the programme.

On the occasion, 97 torchlights were also distributed to people from six villages in acknowledgement of the generous donation they made to him during his vote campaign.
