January 18, 2009. Imphal : Even as various bandhs and blockades are under way in different parts of Manipur, series of agitation still lined up ahead in the state as two more groups on Saturday informed to launch various forms of agitation.
The Joint Action Committee against the Expansion and Extension of Imphal Airport on Saturday informed to launch serious of agitation, against the governments’ decision of 'forceful acquisition' of land for airport expansion, with immediate effect.
According to a press statement released by the secretary of the JAC, Dinesh, while terming the present government as going against the will of the people, the JAC informed that they will boycott all forms of work of the Congress party in the Naoria Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency and all functioning of government offices in the assembly constituency with immediate effect.
While adhering to its stance to go ahead with a total bandh along the Tidim Road (Imphal to Churachandpur) from January 19 the JAC also urged not to carry out any activities of the Congress (SPF) in the assembly constituency, including campaigns for the upcoming Parliamentary elections and added that the JAC will not be responsible for any untoward incident if anyone defies the warning.
Meanwhile, the Thadou Students' Association (TSA) also threatens to launch an extreme form of agitation more stern than the past ones if the state government fails to fulfill the demands of the TSA by January 25.
Informing this during a press conference held at Motbung, Senapati district, president of the students’ body, Laminlun Singsit, pointed out that the students’ body signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with state education minister, L. Jayanta Kumar on October 27, 2008 at the latter's secretariat office with the commitment to work in a priority basis which includes the issues of sufficient school infrastructure and teaching aids according to the submission of the survey data by TSA and construction of school building and rationalization of teachers.
Further, the president revealed that the commitment remains unfruitful and lapse for more than one year now. While asserting that schools play most pre-eminent means of delineating children from labour market and improving schools provides children direction and opportunity to discern their roles in the society, Laminlu urged the government to fulfill the MoU before January 25 failing which the students' body will impose different forms of agitation more drastic than the past agitations of the students' body.
