Naga meet resolves to form common platform

Kohima | March 7 : The three-day long Naga Consultative Meet with Overseas Nagas concluded here this evening by adopting six resolutions to carry forward the Naga political process. Disclosing this to media persons after the conclusion of the meet, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the meet resolved to carry forward the slogan “one dream, one voice, one future.”

It also resolved to form a common platform represented with every tribe, civil society platforms and churches to take the Naga peace process ahead. The common platform will be facilitated by hohos, Political Affairs Committee (PAC), the Forum for Naga Reconciliation and church leaders.

Stating that the reconciliation forum is doing a commendable job towards the cause of reconciliation, the meet resolved to extend full support to the forum to make the stated goal a reality. The house endorsed that ‘we should take the peace process forward through negotiation and it will seek the Government of India to be committed and sincere, to bring an early solution to the Naga political problem’. The meet also resolved to make an appeal and ask the undergrounds to immediately stop fratricidal killing and to declare a ceasefire among themselves.
After thorough deliberations, Rio said the meeting recognized the suffering of the “eastern” Nagas in Burma (Myanmar) and resolved to work towards their recognition, with defined territory for all-round development, politically, socially and economically. Rio informed that the three-day consultative meet witnessed intensive and detailed discussions.

He also complimented to PAC for the successful meet and at the same time he expressed gratitude to the people who had attended the meet - tribal hohos, civil organizations, underground factions and concerned individuals. Co-convenor of the Political Affairs Committee, Dr. T. M. Lotha and secretary PAC Z. Lohe were also present during the press briefing.
