KNO flays IRB on Saikul incident

Singlianmang Guite | Lamka, May 6: Kuki National Organisation today said the continuing reports of wanton killings and high-handedness by the security forces, the IRB in particular, upon the Kuki civilians has drawn their gravest concern, and accused the force of playing communal cards, even as it cautioned the force to halt their boorish act.

The latest incident of IRB high-handedness being the killing of Lalsanglen Mangte, an innocent student which has ultimately disturbed peace and tranquillity in Saikul areas, said the KNO in its statement handed out to the press today. It also alleged the same force as responsible for stirring up the anger and sentiment of the people of Moreh a couple of years back.

“What is more alarming is the fact that, ‘enforcer’ of law and order – the IRB personnel – have been playing ‘communal cards’ more often than not by deliberately targeting innocent Kuki people”, asserted the statement signed by Lenin H Kuki.

In a Hobessioan state like Manipur, individual’s rights and liberties have been threatened to a great extent by the security forces, which are dominated if not populated by the majority community. The subsequent rejection and objection raised by the local populace in the hills and the repeated demands for its removal clearly shows the failure on the part of the IRB to win their hearts, it added.

Deploring the wanton killings, KNO counselled the ‘trigger-happy’ security forces - the IRB in particular to halt their boorish act and uphold the sanity of the individual’s rights and liberties.’

“Defying of this caution shall entail re-evaluation of the KNO’s cherished principles”, it said, even as it called upon the Ibobi-led Government to judge the culprit and book them according to due process of the law. The KNO also called the people in general and student’s community in particular to stand in unison and fight against the indiscriminate killings, injustice and deprivation of rights of the Kuki people.
