Zeme Council challenges DHD (J) claim

Dimapur, May 7 : The Zeme Council has denounced the claim of the DHD (J) that the North Cachar Hills in Assam belongs to the latter and has warned the militant outfit against confusing the Nagas’ patience and tolerance as weakness. The Zeme Council (north east) today issued a brief statement condemning the DHD (J) “sneaking into NC Hill and disturbing the life and harmony of Zeme/Jeme Naga, Hmars, Kukis and the Karbis”.

The outfit (DHD) was formed only in 1993; so how can they claim that the NC Hill district belongs to them when the Zemes, Hamars, Kukis and Karbis had been living there since time immemorial, the Council asked.

According to the Council, more than 130 people were killed in the ethnic bloodbath between the Dimasa and Hmar in the hill district in 2004 and now their “guns turns to the Zeme/Jeme Naga for provoking”.

‘Appealing’ against taking the Zeme Nagas’ patience and tolerance as a weakness, the Council has asserted that the community will never remain a silent spectator “in case if they (DHD) repeated again their ugly and undemocratic manner towards Zeme Naga”.
