Contractors burn EE’s motor

Lamka, Nov 8: Barely two days after agitating contractors here dismantled two IFCD culverts and pled-ged to sustain their agitation, a Maruti Gypsy of the IFC Department allotted to a divisional EE was set ablaze after it was hijacked from the driver today.

According to police report, the Gypsy bearing re- gistration number MN 1A-5313, assigned to Khuga Canal Division EE JF Tusing was hijacked from the driver by activists of Khugadam Neglected Contractors’ Forum at Nehru Marg-Rengkai road junction here at around 11:35 am. After about 45 mi-nutes, the vehicle was set ablaze at Gangpimual village, about 3 km south of the police station. Police and Fire tenders were immediately despatched to the spot but a better part of the vehicle was already charred by then.

Claiming responsibility, KNCF secretary information and publicity James Kuki said, ‘‘for what ever activities and actions taken by the KNCF, IFC Department is solely responsible for it.’’

It is a sign of agony and total disillusion of the forum over the IFC department delaying clearance of their outstanding bill, we will go on our own way until payments are made, he added.

Zomi Students’ Federation Tuining block, meanwhile, said it hails the ongoing construction work of Lamka to Sugnu and appealed to the contractors to maintain transparency and to strictly adhere to the guidelines of quality control. It also expressed its readiness to assist the work agencies if needed even as it appealled to the public to co-operate with the officials involved in the construction work.
