Manipur CM at Delhi to lobby for tribal varsity

IMPHAL, Nov 10 : In connection with setting up the proposed centre of the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University for the tribal students of Manipur, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Education Minister L Jayantakumar are currently camping at New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and the Human Resource Development Minister.

Talking to The Sangai Express from New Delhi, Education Minister L Jayantakumar informed that in accordance with the recent State Cabinet resolution on setting up a centre of the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University for the tribal students of Manipur he reached the National capital today.

“Along with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who has been at New Delhi since yesterday, we are waiting to meet the Prime Minister and the HRD Minister in this regard,” the Education Minister said.

Prime Minister Man-mohan Singh is currently not at New Delhi but would be returning tonight. So an appointment would be sought tomorrow for arranging a meeting with him, Jayantakumar conveyed, adding that the appointment with Union HRD Minister has already been granted and the meeting is likely to be held within the next couple of days.

During the meeting with the Prime Minister and the HRD Minister, the State Government would press for the Centre’s approval on setting up a centre of the India Gandhi National Tribal University in Manipur for the tribal students.

It may be noted here that following the State Cabinet decision on setting up a campus of the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University , the tribal students of MU have called off their agitation and returned to the campus.

L Jayantakumar flew to Delhi today at the instruction of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who is already there since yesterday.
