Lamka, Jan 24: Following the report of PDS rice pilferage in the local market, a team of CCpur police headed by SP S Manglemjao Singh today raided at least three godowns including the shop where ZEPADA claimed PDS rice was unloaded on 13 January. The police raid today established the fact that ‘Vanda’ was misquoted by the ZEPADA statement issued yesterday. Vanda was owned by one Momocha while the actual shop was owned by Abung Singh with no sign-board but registered as Chicken Centre cum Variety Store.
ZEPADA representatives have claimed after the police raid, that PDS tags were recovered from the rice bags when its representatives checked the stockpile on the unmarked store. To prove their claim tags allegedly obtained from the rice bags and photos taken from a mobile phone with the tags still intact with the rice bags were shown to the media today, but Abung Singh said he wasn’t aware of any tag on his supplies obtained directly from Dimapur.
‘I am not aware of any tag on the bags. I placed my orders in bulk at Dimapur and they were delivered here,’ he said today adding, ‘two more truck load of his orders will arrive today or tomorrow.’ He also produces Cash Memos for the rice he claimed was obtained from Dimapur, which the police took possession of during their raid.
The District administration on their part said, they are investigating the authenticity of the report. Their early indication however was, if there was any pilferage at all it would not be on their part.
