UKLF bans Zoumi Namni festival

Imphal, February 10 2009: The united Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), which is concerned with the genealogical heritage of the Kuki nation, has banned celebration of Zoumi Namni festival in Manipur as it is a festival celebrated in Myanmar as Chin National Day. However, the Zoumi tribe can only celebrate the Zoumi tribe festival. There is no other festival except Kut festival which is recognised by the state government as Chin-Kuki-Mizo festival as the festival of harvestevery year, Secretary of Information and Publicity, UKLF, TL Jacob Thadou informed through a press release today.

He stated that the Front acknowledges the 22 tribes which are recognised by the Centre and the state government and informed leaders of all tribes concerned that there should not be any new community based organisation or mobilisation in future.

The UKLF also informed the leaders of Zillai Student Organisation not to reform the student organisation in Chandel district.

The resolution of UKLF must be regarded in order to strengthen the re-unification, TL Jacob Thadou stated.
