# CCpur air its grievances; 2 killed

Lamka, Sept 18: Atleast three organizations, including the Zomi Students Federation, Kuki Students Organisation and and the Local Contractors today separately air their grievances to the government and threaten numerous forms of agitation.

The ZSF, a frontal students’ organization in the district has declared that it will resort to boycotting of government vehicles from 22nd September 2007 as the government has failed to settle all pending ex-gratia cases within its stipulated time. And, threatens to go more intense if no concrete comes up with its initial step.

Further, the ZSF said it was taken aback by the recent landmine explosion at Jangngoulen village in Chandel District in which a mother was killed and another woman injured.

“The incident reflects the indifferent attitude of the state government in sanitizing the deadly landmine planted in interior tribal areas” the ZSF adds, even as it conveys a heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.

The KSO Churachandpur district meanwhile, in a memorandum presented a to the Chairman, Hill Area Committee (HAC) said it was shocked by the inclusion of some border regions of the district in the upcoming Panchayat Election despite the stiff opposition.

“Enacting a separate law meant for the valley area like in the present case just because of the presence of a handful of some non-tribals in hill areas is only inviting law and order problems. Moreover this is an attempt to encroach upon the right of the minority tribals of Manipur” it reasoned.

Making it clear that ‘no villages in Churachandpur district would be allowed for exercise of the right of franchise during (the) Panchayat Election’ KSO urges the HAC Chariman to take immediate action on the infringement and stop the transportation of polling official for the same.

Unlike other times, we will not resort to bandh calls to air our grievances but will do what we deemed fit to counter and stop the Panchayat Election in any villages of Churachandpur, it said. It also warned the government of shouldering responsibility, in the event of any untoward incident arising out of it.

In another striking development, the contractors engaged under Khuga Head Works Division under its christen brand, Local Contractor’s Association today warn of halting all works in the Khuga Project including the Tedim Road diversion if the state government fails to pay pending bills of works completed under Khuga Head Work Division by 22nd September 2007.

The contractors claimed that all works under the said division were completed some two years back, but its payment due till date. It also maintain that a mere 3.6 crore has been released by the department towards payment of their pending bills as against the agreed Rs 10 Crore on first week of April this year.

Meanwhile, bullet ridden bodies of two suspected extortionist were discovered early today on the foothills of Boljol village with their hands tied on the back and each of their head bearing a serious billet injury.

According to information received by the media here, three gang-like extortionists were apprehended by a combined force of KNF (MC) and USRA with an indictment of extorting money from passenger vehicles and commercial shops. The duo later identified as Thangkholun son of (L) Seikhohen of Boljol village and Henzapau Guite son of Thanglet of Gangpimual were subsequently executed while the third had escaped.
