Bomb attack protested, condemned

IMPHAL, Mar 11: Taking strong exception to the bomb attack undertaken by the proscribed PREPAK at the Thongju Part-I Pheija Leitong residence of MLA Bijoy Koijam at about 6 pm yesterday, protest sittings were staged at two different places today.
The protest sittings staged by the Meira Paibis of Thongju Pheija Leitong and surrounding areas held placards which read as “We condemn bomb attack in civilian areas”, “Don’t intimidate civilians”, “Give up gun culture” etc.
A similar protest sitting against the bomb attack was also staged at Khongman Students’ Club community hall.
On the other hand, different organisations and clubs have strongly condemned the bomb attack which caused serious mental disturbance and fear psychosis among the people, particularly students who are appearing metric and class II exams.
Strongly condemning the bomb attack, the Rising Star Club Thongju Waikhom Khongnang has also appealed to all concerned not to repeat such violent activities in future.
In a press release, the People Development Organisation, Thongju has also condemned the bomb attack.
It also appealed to all concern to refrain such activities in future.
Players call off stir

IMPHAL, Mar 11 : Players of the State who have been picketing Khuman Lampak Sports complex since February 29 demanding Government jobs for outstanding players who have won gold medals in National Games have suspended their stir temporarily. The stir was suspended on the assurance of the Director of Youth Affairs and Sports. Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club here today, chairperson of the All Manipur Players’ Welfare Coordinating Committee S Girimohon quoting the YAS Director conveyed that files pertaining to appointment of players which have been held up in the Secretariat earlier have been sent to respective authorities. Moreover, the genuine and rational demand of the players was also deliberated in the State Assembly, Girimohon noted.
However, if the recruitment process of the players is not completed promptly, the players will resume their agitation any time, he cautioned.
ALT urges
IMPHAL, Mar 11: Taking strong exception to the reported act of selling off SSA text books to book stores by Chandel district DI LR Koireng, the Anal Lenruwl Tangpi (ALT) has urged upon the authority concerned to take up befitting actions against the DI, conveyed an ALT release.
The act of selling off text books meant for poor students under SSA scheme is an act betrayal on the part of the DI, it remarked
It sought clarification on construction and repairing of schools, the Mid-Day Meal scheme and the honorarium for education volunteers.
Model fishery district

IMPHAL, Mar 11: Fishery Minister Allauddin Khan today informed members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly that the SPF Government is planning to set up a Model Fishery District at a common site in Bishnupur district and Mayang Imphal.
Deliberating on matters concerning fishery Department in today’s session of the ongoing Assembly, the Minister said annual production of fishes in the State has reached 18,500 metric tonne which is said to about 6500 metric tonne shortage compared to requirement.
Regarding breeding of fingerlings, Allauddin Khan disclosed that out of 17 ponds involved in fingerling productions only eight are functional at the current juncture.
MLAs Dr Ng Bijoy, Dr I Ibohalbi, N Mangi and L Nandakumar aired their respective proposals during the Demand discussion.
KSO to monitor Govt schools
IMPHAL, Mar 11: To promote quality education, KSO Chandel District in an executive meeting held today decided to press all the Government schools to conduct regular classes from the session 2008-09.
The students’ body also asked all the outstation headmasters to stay at their place of posting.
KSO CDL also entrusted all the block level KSOs in the district to keep strict vigil of the schools under its respective jurisdictions.
Regarding EGS/AIE under SSA, KSO CDL, VEC and village chiefs must follow the guidelines of the programme implementation, KS CDL added.
VA clarifies
IMPHAL, Mar 11: Reacting to the news report published under the heading “Villagers living along NH 53 continue to suffer” on March 11 edition, Pongrin-long (Charoipandongba) Village Authority has clarified that the construction of the PHSC at the area was completed on February 28 and added that there were no monetary demands from any UG group.
Electric bills
IMPHAL, Mar 11: Assistant Engineer of Electricity Department Singjamei sub-division has informed the consumers to clear their due bills as the Department is ready to disconnect and lodge criminal cases against the consumers who have not cleared bills and have un-authorise connections. The Department also urged the public to co-operate in this regard. Central sub-division No II of the Department will also start its drive of collecting electric bills and disconnection of un-authorise connections from March 14 in the areas of Thangal Bazar, BT Road, Dharamsala, Khoyathong Road and Majorkhul. The sub-division appealed the consumers of these areas to cooperate on the drive.
HSA-GHQ warns
IMPHAL, Mar 11: Hmar Students’ Association, GHQ has urged the Government to send relief food- grains for the famine affected people of Churachandpur district especia-lly for the villagers living in the interior areas of Tipai-mukh. The students’ body also asked the Government to disburse the promised relief for rape and molest victims of Parbung and Lungthulien.
Alleging that Govt turned a blind eye on the grievances of these victims, the Students’ body warned that they would boycott the coming public hearing of the Tipaimukh Hydro Multipurpose Dam to be held at Tipaimukh if the Govt does not fulfil their demands, a press release said.

IMPHAL, Mar 11: The remaining candidates for undergoing physical efficiency test (PET) for the recruitment of Police Constable (male/civil) of Thoubal district are informed that the PET will be resumed on March 25 at 8 am at Manipur Police Training School, Pangei.
Meanwhile, one Soibam Santa Singh (28) s/o S Ibochou Singh of Thoubal Leishangthem was arrested today from Manipur Police constable rally held at MPTS, Pangei for impersonating Soibam Shamu Singh. He was handed over to Heingang Police Station, a Manipur Police press release said.

IMPHAL, Mar 11: To commemorate 4th raising day the IGAR (S) will organise ‘Sky Diving/Free Fall’ at the Mantripukhri Environment Park on March 14 at 8 am, informed PRO IGAR (S) in a release. The show will be open to all civilian population and those desirous of witnessing the show may enter through Matai village, it added.
