Kohima, March 11 (NPN): Giving a befitting response to allegations made by the Congress that some MLAs were being kept under virtual house arrest, DAN Tuesday paraded all 30 elected alliance members along with four Independents supporting the conglomerate before the media which was given further impetus the Independent member from 59th Seyochung Sitimi, C. Kipili Sangtam, also joined in to pledge support to the alliance.
With this, the strength of DAN – (NPF-26, BJP and NCP- 2 each) and supported by five Independents – has gone up to 35. Addressing the media at DAN Legislature Party leader-elect Neiphiu Rio’s residence here, NPF president and former planning minister Dr. Shürhozelie refuted the charges of kidnapping of Independent MLAs or any other members as alleged by the Congress.
Shürhozelie said the press conference was arranged “to project the real stand” of all DAN parties and the Independents supporting the conglomerate.
Earlier, the Congress alleged that the Independent, NCP and BJP MLAs were kept under “illegal confinement and duress” by the NPF and preventing them from public audience.
Meanwhile, brushing aside all speculations, chief ministerial candidate Rio said the DAN along with the Independents had clear majority and therefore, should be allowed to form the government. The former chief minister said he was awaiting invitation from the Governor to form the next government either by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. Lok Sabha MP, Wanguh Konyak, who was also present, said he had met the Governor on Tuesday morning and that the latter assured of inviting DAN to form the government.
BJP MLA-elect, M.C. Konyak, said BJP is a partner of DAN and therefore, there was no question of going away from the conglomerate. NCP MLA-elect, Dr. Chumben Murry, said his party was supporting DAN on its own volition as a part of pre-poll agreement and not under duress. Dr. Murry said the NCP would remain committed to the pre-poll agreement. He disclosed that senior NCP leader P.A Sangma had instructed them to be with the DAN. The four Independent MLAs-elect including Dr. C.K Nihoshe, Dr. Ngansghi Ao, P. Dako Phom and Chotisuh Sazo reiterated their unconditional support to Rio. Independent MLA C. Kipili Sangtam said he had joined DAN in order to strengthen the leadership of Rio. Kipili also said he voluntarily joined the alliance.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of NPF youth threatened to storm Hotel Japfü, where the Congress MLAs were camping. The youths were angry over the delay by the Governor to invite DAN to form the government including allegations that some Independent MLAs in DAN camp were being threatened by the undergrounds. The youths dispersed the area following reports about the likely revocation of President’s Rule. to pave way for the formation of the new government.

Swearing in one go: Rio
Kohima, March 11 (NPN): Chief ministerial candidate Neiphiu Rio of DAN alliance Tuesday said the swearing-in ceremony of his ministry would be held in one go.
Under the 91 Amendment of downsizing of ministry, Nagaland can have at the most 12 ministers, including the chief minister. Commenting about his priority as chief minister, Rio said his government would work to create a conducive atmosphere for peace and sustainable development.
Rio said the pace of development, triggered during DAN regime, would gather momentum in the next five years. He also stressed that his government would play the role of “active facilitator” in order to bring about permanent solution to the long-standing Naga political problem. Further, Rio said his government would work to bring about unity and harmony among the different Naga tribes.
“It is time that we Nagas united as one Naga family and march together forward.” Rio disclosed that DAN government would constitute a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) to pursue peace and unity and at the same time bring developmental activities. (Correspondent)
