IMPHAL, May 9: All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has rejected the order issued by president of JN Institute of Medical Sciences Society (JIMS) in connection with appoint-ment to 33 different posts. In a statement, spokesperson of the student body Joseph R Hmar said that the order is unacceptable to ATSUM as there are only 5 reserved posts for tribal candidates instead of 10 in accordance to the State Re-servation quota of 31 per- cent and also in the light of the verbal assurance given on ‘correct quota’ to the ATSUM representatives in the presence of Tribal Ministers TN Haokip and DD Thaisii.
ATSUM strongly condemns the order which is an act of continued denial of tribal rights, Joseph said, while lamenting that tribal people of Manipur have had bitter experiences of this kind for decades in all Government Departments of the State.
Demanding an open apology from the president of JIMS and Government of Manipur for not keeping their words, the student body has also pressed for resignation of the president from the society.
We demand a white paper on the procedure of the selection and recruitment of the doctors held from April 17 to 27, the statement of ATSUM said.
Setting May 16 as the deadline for fulfilling these demands, the student body has also warned of launching intense agitations if the Government fails to come out with a positive response in this regard.
Furthermore ATSUM has called upon other studies bodies like CDSU of Churachandpur, ZSUM of Tamenglong, TKS of Ukhrul, SDSA of Senapati and NSUC of Chandel to participate in a joint meeting on May 11 to discuss the issue minutely and seriously.
