‘Govt has failed to control ethnic conflict in NC Hills’

HOWRAGHAT, May 14 – The Karbi Students Association (KSA) has expressed serious concern over the ethnic conflict taking place between the Dimasas and Jemi Nagas in NC Hills. A press statement signed by Biren Engti, chief adviser, KSA alleged that the ruling Congress Government has been planning to sabotage the age-old relationship between the aboriginal tribal communities by conspiring to hatch violence.

The Karbi student leader pointing out to the conflict that took place between the Kuki and Karbis and Karbi and Dimasas in Karbi Anglong in recent years, further alleged that in the tenure of Congress regime many lives and properties of the common people of the Karbi hills was lost in the ethnic riots.

That time too, the ruling Congress Government botched up plans to establish permanent peace among the tribal people and now instead of taking prompt steps to stem the spate of violence and killings of the innocent and common people it seems to be waiting for the situation to deteriorate in the district. The Government has completely failed to restore law and order in the district, the press statement further added.

The KSA while condemning the violence demanded from the Government immediate beefing up of adequate security measures in order to stop the ongoing violence taking place between the Jemi Naga and Dimasa community.
