Imphal: A new stricture issued by the Imphal Municipal Council has ordered that no door or window should face towards the Raj Bhawan complex, which will be applicable to all the buildings and offices located adjacent to the structure. Executive Officer of Imphal Municipal Council W Bhaktaraj informed that a month's time had been given to all the shops and structures to implement the decision.
The Manipur government had taken up several security measures following repeated attacks by militants on the Raj Bhawan and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's official residence.
High barricades have been constructed around the Chief Minister's residence and the office of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) adjacent to the CM's residence has been shifted away and the entire complex sealed off.
Security personnel are on duty 24 hours a day around the CM's complex.
The Raj Bhawan complex is also well protected and in all the attempted attacks so far, the bombs landed on the walls of the complex.
High towers were erected around the complex where sentry duties were performed 24 hours a day.
The EO of IMC said the decision to bar opening of any door or window was taken up following a review meeting held in March presided over by the State Chief Secretary. The decision was taken to safeguard the Raj Bhawan complex.
It would affect all buildings on the western side of Raj Bhawan, he added. (UNI)
