GUWAHATI, May 10 – In wake of escalated tension in the North Cachar Hill district following attacks on the Dimasa community, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today ordered joint operations by security forces to restore normalcy. Gogoi has ordered intensified joint operations by the Army, police and paramilitary forces in the district to bring back normalcy, official sources said here.
The Chief Minister, who was in touch with the district authorities, asked the law-enforcing agencies to start the operations immediately.
Senior minister Khor Singh Engti has been deputed by Gogoi to oversee the situation in the district.
“The government will leave no stone unturned to bring the situation under control and the culprits will be brought to book,” Gogoi said.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) slammed the Chief Minister for allegedly failing to control the situation as he also holds the Home portfolio. “Gogoi should resign as he has failed to protect innocent lives,” party spokesman Atul Bora has said.
At least three people of the Dimasa community were killed and many houses set ablaze by miscreants at Phaiding village of the district yesterday.
Violence has been taking place in the district for the last two months with two communities engaged in a turf war.
