KSO supports ATSUM stand

Imphal, Feb 27: The Kuki Students’ Organization (General Headquarters) (KSO-GHQ) has on Wed-nesday expressed supports to the move of the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) in taking up the cause to restore tribal rights in Manipur University.

The KSO (GHQ) information and publicity secretary Paotinthang Lupheng in a statement said that discrepancies in the quota allot- ment in admissions and job appointments that took centre-staged in the lone university of the state are a matter of grave concern which needs to be looked into seriously.

KSO urged the State Govt to take into account the demands of the AT-SUM in the interests of the tribal students who have been “deprived of their fair share” in this recently upgraded Central University.

It may be mentioned here that the ATSUM has been threatening to pull out all tribal students of Manipur University on March 1, alleging that the authorities of the university have not been following reservation policies in the varsity for recruitment of jobs in the institution. Other students’ bodies such as the Manipur University Tribal Students, Union (MUTSU) and the Komrem Students’ Union Manipur (KRSUM) have also expressed support to the move of the ATSUM.
