Sadar hills bodies threaten to stir

IMPHAL, Feb 26: Various social organisation have warned of launching agitation against the State Govt in case the community health care centre being run by the Charik Pareng Child Welfare Association against all odds is not considered during the Selection Committee meeting of MACS scheduled to be held on February 28.

Addressing a joint press conference at the community health care centre loca- ted at Kangpokpi today, TSA president Lamminlun Singsit informed that Charik Pareng Child Welfare Association has been running he community health care centre despite the odds facing against it for the last 4/5 years.

Inspite of being a part of Senapati district, there are more number of people in Sadar Hills and the problem of the HIV/AIDS patients living in Sadar Hills are being taken care of the health centre, he said, reminding that out of the four Assembly Constituencies of Sena- pati district, three are in Sadar Hills.

Advisor of Kuki Women’s Union Neikholhing Louvum categorically stat-ed, dharna or strike would be called against the Govt in case the Selection Committee of MACS does select the said community health care centre during its proposed meeting on February 28.

Ex-chairman of Kangpokpi Town Committee N Haokip described the efforts being made to shift the community health care centre from Kangpokpi to Senapati as an act of politicalisation.

In case such an arrangement ever take place on the ground that Sadar Hills has not yet attained the district status, then the fund sanctioned for the said centre by NACO through MACS should be shared 50-50 as Sadar Hills has more population, he reasoned.

Secretary of Charik Pareng Child Welfare Association Dr Savitri recounted that the Association started running the community health care centre since April 19, 2003 with great difficulties. Even if there was no fund, as the number of patients was overwhelming, the Association had even asked for rice from the people living in the surrounding area to feed the patients. In running the health care centre, the Association has so far suffered a deficit of Rs 10 lakh.

She further informed that MACS has not kept its earlier promise of providing fund to the centre. Subsequently, a project proposal was submitted through the secretary of District AIDS Committee, Senapati, but later found out that the said proposal had not been forwarded to MACS at all.
