IMPHAL, Dec 11: To implement the recommendations of the 6th Central Pay Commission for the employees of the State Government, the Committee of Officers headed by the Chief Secretary as Chairman has estimated the total amount that would be necessary to hike the salaries of State employees.
The Committee has also submitted a report to the Finance Department and is awaiting a Cabinet decision for implementation of the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission.
A highly reliable source informed The Sangai Express that the Committee has estimated the requisite amount for payment of salaries to State employees according to the 6th pay Commission in first instalment at Rs 780 crores (approximately).
For the Committee to further work on implementation of the 6th Pay Commission after due perusal of the estimate by the Chief Minister, the Finance Department has been entrusted with the task to do the needful.
However, implementation of the 6th Pay Commission depends on the 13th Finance Commission as the estimated amount is too big for the State Government to meet it from the Plan amount.
This would also severely cripple the State Govern-ment in taking up deve- lopment works, conveyed the source.
It is reported that the State Government is considering to send a proposal to the 13th Finance Commission to sanction Rs 4000 crores for implementation of the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission to the State Govt employees. Significantly, a team of the 13th Finance Commission would be visiting the State from Jan 20 to 22. The Committee of Officers will also be looking into pay anomalies of State employees after a Cabinet decision has been adopted in this regard. On the other hand, State Govt employees have been agitating demanding implementation of the 6th Central Pay Commission. [TSE]
