ADC teachers threaten stir over non-payment of salaries

Imphal, Dec 6: Stating that the state government has failed to pay their salaries for the past six months, i.e. since July last till date, the government teachers of the six Hills Autonomous District Councils, Manipur namely the districts of Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul, Churachandpur, Chandel and Sadar Hills have decided to go for various types of agitations such as pendown strike, hunger strike and indefinite economic blockades along the national highways (NHs) 39 and 53 respectively.

The council has set the government December 10 as the deadline for meeting their demands of pay failing which the council would begin their agitations.

In a press note by the Publicity Wings, All Manipur District Council Teachers' Association, Tualkhanlal informed that the state government has failed to pay the teachers for the last six months. The publicity wings also pointed out that there were lots of pending from the side of the government such as 14 % Dearness Allowances from January 1, 2001 to June 30, 2005, 12 % Dearness Allowances from July 1, 2008 till date, the non-completion of pension benefit scheme undertaking form to the retired/deceased employees in respect of the Six Autonomous District Council, Manipur etc.

Pointing out that the central government has been funding 80% to the employees, the Tualkhanlal questioned how the state government could keep the salaries of the teachers pending. And terming the treatment of the Manipur government towards the employees of the six Autonomous District Council, Manipur the publicity wings informed that the body would go all the to take up different forms of agitations such as pendown strike, hunger strike and indefinite economic blockades along the NHs 39 and 53 respectively if the government fails to meet the demands by December 10.
