Dedicated airways for NE delayed

NEW DELHI, Dec 16 – The prospect of a dedicated airways in the North East taking to the sky seems distant, with the airline selected by Government of India yet to file its papers with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The Central Government has granted initial NOC to ZAV Air to operate scheduled regional air services within Eastern and North Eastern region. The operator has not yet submitted their papers indicating their plan of operation, said Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel in reply to a question by Biren Baishya in the Rajya Sabha. The Government has laid down route dispersal guidelines with a view to achieve better regulation of air transport services taking into account the need for air transport services of different regions of the country including the North East. Currently, 304 flights are operated weekly to and from the Northeastern region. The Minister further added that to mitigate the difficulties in travelling out of NE, Alliance Air has signed an MoU with the NEC. The Alliance Air has been granted a viability gap of Rs 35 crore for 2006-2007 and Rs 38.50 crore in 2008.

Imphal, December 16 2008: In its effort to help underprivileged children to visit various parts of Manipur and the country, 27 Sector AR sent around 60 children of destitute home belonging to different parts of Churachandpur to Imphal yesterday.

The bus took the team to Zoological park, Museum and Catholic Cathedral, informed a release issued by PRO of Hqs IG AR (S).

Nagaland seeks modernisation fund

KOHIMA, Dec 16 – The Nagaland Government has sought ‘modernisation fund’ from the Centre to improve the State’s infrastructure.

Viewing the inadequate infrastructure in the administrative set up in Nagaland, the State Government has requested the Central Government to grant modernization fund for district administration, but the response is still awaited from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Nagaland Home Minister, Imkong L Imchen revealed this while addressing the 36th General Conference of Nagaland Civil Service Association (NCSA) here.

Asserting that the government has been creating several administrative centres across the State, Imkong, however said that infrastructure was still wanting, and also the ministerial staff.

Chief Secretary of Nagaland Lalhuma in his address stated that the modernization of administration in line with police is badly needed in Nagaland. He also asserted that an amount of Rs 5 crore has been set aside for repair of administrative centre buildings in the State.
