IMPHAL, Dec 12: In order to decentralise power to the local self government in the hill districts of the state, the state government is preparing to hold elections to the autonomous district councils in every hill district of the state after a long gap, said chief minister O Ibobi Singh while taking part in the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Paomata High School this morning.
The chief minister further said the state government was taking necessary steps for development of various hill districts of the state with an objective to maintain uniform development in both hills and plains. The state government has also already earmarked funds for construction of SDO and BDo offices in every sub-divisional headquarter of the hill districts in order to restore proper administration in various interior parts of the hill districts of the state.
Regarding the improvement programmes taken up by the state government in terms of education in the hill districts of the state, he said the state government had completed the process for the recruitment of 1729 teachers to fill up the shortage of teachers in primary schools in the hill districts of the state. Besides, the state government has also initiated the process for establishing the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University in the state which was recently approved by the Centre.
The chief minister also further assured that the state government would consider raising the existing Paomata High School to the higher secondary status. The state government also had a plan to maintain a police station in Paomata village and upgradation of existing PHC at Paomata to CHC along with proper maintenance of the 60 km long Phaibung to Laii Shiraffi road for which he sought cooperation from the villagers.
Earlier, the chief minister laid the foundation stones for the construction of SDO offices at Willong and Phaibung sub-disvison of Senapati district today. He was accomapanied by state revenue minister Th Devendra Singh, works minister K Ranjit, Rd and PR minister Md Allauddin Khan, TD minister DD Thaisii, and ex-ministers RK Thekho and Fancis Ngajokpa.
