Congress candidate for the post of Speaker, Mr. R. Romawia is likely to be the Speaker of Mizoram State Legislative Assembly. He is the lone candidate who filed his nomination paper during the stipulated time.

Meanwhile the stage has been set for convening the first session of the recently constituted 6th Mizoram State Legislative Assembly. According to official sources, the session, which starts tomorrow, is to last for three days and the first day will be devoted for oath taking of the newly elected MLAs and election of the Speaker. As soon as the House takes up its business the Protem Speaker, Mr. JH Rothuama will administer oath to the new MLAs and this will be followed by election of the Speaker. As a customary practice, the new House will be addressed on the second day by the Governor, Lt. Gen. MM Lakhera. A motion of thanks on the Governor address will be discussed on Thursday. Prior to this, obituary reference will be made to the departed souls of former Prime Minister, Viswanath Pratab Singh and former MLA, Ellis Saidenga who passed away during the inter session period.

The Chief Minister Mr. Lalthanhawla said, the Government is doing away with VIP quotas in cooking Gas. Addressing the Congress Youth in the Congress Bhawan today, the Chief Minister said, VIP quota in cooking gas is creator of rift between the haves and the have nots and the privileged and un-privileged persons. He however said that the Government will make emergency reservation to meet exigency. The Chief Minister also said that he has returned 5 of the 8 vehicles left by the former Chief Minister to the Secretariat Administration Department and said that he will not need so many vehicles to perform his duties as the Chief Minister………………. In this meeting, the Congress Youth congratulated and honoured the new MLAs …………….

MNF President Mr Zoramthanga said, he is convinced that the Electronic Voting Machines used in the Assembly elections were tampered with. Addressing the Party workers in Hnam Run today, the former Chief Minister said, a complain case on the reliability of EVM is under consideration in the Supreme Court. Not only the Computer Scientist of American University, but also the Congress, BJP and Trinamool Congress leader, Mamta Banerjee have complaint its accuracy. Referring to the indication of the votes polled in the just concluded Assembly elections, Mr. Zoramthanga said, everybody including Congress, MNF and UDA were surprised to learn that a huge votes were polled by the Congress candidate and this also has cast a shadow of doubt in the functioning of the EVM…………………

The Home Minister Mr. R.Lalzirliana and Agriculture Minister Mr. H.Liansailova occupied their new office chambers from today. Addressing the Senior Police officers and other department officers, the new Home Minister asked the officers to cooperate him to continue to make Mizoram a peaceful state. He also asked them to display utmost sincerity and dedication in the discharge of their respective duties. Addressing the Department officers, the new Agriculture Minister, Mr. H. Liansailova asked the officers and staff to work hard to meet expectation of the people. He also informed the officers and staff that he will try his level best to deliver the expected goods to the people.-

MPC, ZNP and Zoram Kuthnathawktu Pawl agreed in principle to merge under the umbrella of United Democratic Alliance. This proposal was made in the recent meeting of the 3 Party Coordination Committee meeting. In a press release, the Coordination Committee said that the decision in this regard has been left for consideration of the highest decision making body of the 3 Parties. Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee also asked the Unit, Block and District level organizations in the Party to remain united in view of Village Council elections, falling due in February next year, Parliamentary elections to be held sometime in April or May, Assembly By elections and Municipal Council elections expected to be held in the near future.

Mizoram Consumers Union asked the Chief Minister to create a separate cell in Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department to deal with Consumer Affairs. This was conveyed to the Chief Minister by the MCU President, Mr. P. Lalupa and his colleagues when they called on him in his residence last Saturday. They also asked him to do away with VIP quotas in cooking Gas and revamp Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department with a view to improve the lot of consumers.
