KNO decries molestation of State girls in Gurgaon

IMPHAL, Dec 16 : The Kuki National Organisation has strongly condemned the recent molestation of two girls from Manipur by their landlord at Gurgaon recently. Making its stand clear, KNO in a statement today said that it cherishes, abide by and stand for justice and equal treatment of all irrespective or religion, caste, tribe sex and colour and hence strongly condemn the discrimination against North East people in Indian cities.

With peace a far cry in the region and the imposition of draconian laws like AFSPA, thousands of North East people have been compelled to move to cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad etc in search of education and better living conditions. However, wherever they go the people of North East are mistreated and discriminated and often branded ‘foreigners’ from Nepal, Thailand, China etc.

It is a shame that India has failed to deliver justice, equality and fraternity as promised in the Constitution, said KNO and added that the impracticality and impossibility of the ‘Indian Union’ is manifested in the way Indian society treat and view the people of North East as if they are from another planet.

Derogatory terms like Chinki, Nepali, Bahadur, Sing Song etc are used against the North East people in Indian cities, said KNO and added that girls from the region are treated as sex objects and harassed even in broad daylight inside city buses.

Absurd and uninvited questions about the place of the North East people and questions such as where is Manipur or Nagaland have been raised frequently, KNO noted.

The dos and don’ts imposed on the people of the North East in the capital and the restrictions on their food preference clearly sums up the discrimination faced by the North Easterners, added KNO.

In the back drop of the untold miseries people of North East have to face in Indian cities, the time has come for all to deeply analyse the armed conflict situation and save the home lands, asserted KNO.
